Tracing Australia is the focus of my current body of work, developed through extended journeys across the continent. In 2025 I spent six months travelling through the Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales before returning home to Queensland. These journeys build on earlier travels through Tasmania, Far North Queensland and other parts of Australia.

I find myself asking: what is Australia? Is it place, culture or something less easily defined? What does it mean to call ourselves Australian, and is that experience shared equally? What obligations come with belonging to this place?

As a landscape artist, I am interested in what the land can tell us, the histories and memories it holds, the traces we leave upon it, and how these stories might shape our future.

Tracing Australia brings these questions together through drawing, painting, mapping, collected material, research and observation of place.
